Nordic Walking 40 min
Forty minutes of brisk walking with Nordic poles works more muscles and burns more calories than regular walking.
Forty minutes of brisk walking with Nordic poles, which brings the upper body into every stride and works more muscles and burns more calories than regular walking.
The poles have a glove-like strap, so you push through the palm rather than grip with the fingers.
The session at a glance
- Focus: cardio
- Intensity: moderate
- Duration: 40 minutes
- Equipment: Nordic poles
The protocol
- Warm-up — 5 min. Easy walking with poles trailing, then leg swings front-to-back and side-to-side.
- Pole technique — 5 min. Opposite arm and leg move forward together as in normal walking; press down and back through the strap with the palm.
- Brisk Nordic walk — 25 min. Moderate intensity: you can talk but not sing.
- Cool-down — 5 min. Slow the pace for a few minutes, then gently stretch calves, hamstrings and shoulders.
Why this works
- More muscle in every step. The poles bring the upper body into the stride.
- Moderate intensity. The talk-but-not-sing pace is the moderate-intensity benchmark used by public-health guidance.
- Low impact. It is walking, with poles.
