Finish your regular shower with three alternating cycles of 30 seconds warm then 30 seconds cold — a cheap, daily method to train autonomic flexibility, raise circulating norepinephrine, and improve heart-rate variability over time.

The protocol

  • Temperature: Water you normally shower in for the warm phase; as cold as your shower allows for the cold phase
  • Timing: 3 cycles of 30 s warm → 30 s cold; finish on cold
  • Duration: ~3 minutes added to the end of a normal shower
  • Frequency: Daily (or every shower)
  • Prerequisites:
    • Start with a single 15-second cold finish for the first week before working up to full cycles
