Hourly Movement Snack with a Band — AgeGen

One minute of resistance-band work at the top of every working hour — pull-aparts, dislocates, a set of squats — adds up to eight minutes of accumulated volume a day with no gym trip. It targets exactly the tissue a desk shortens, and it costs nothing more than a band left in sight.

The protocol

  • Cue: a calendar reminder, or the same hourly timer used for the standing-desk alternation.
  • Duration: 1 minute per hour, roughly 8 times across a working day.
  • Equipment: one light resistance band left permanently at the desk — out of a drawer, in sight. The band being visible is most of the adherence.
  • Rotation A: band pull-apart x15.
  • Rotation B: band shoulder dislocate x10.
  • Rotation C: bodyweight squat x15.
  • Rotation D: band face pull x15.

What you get

  • Accumulates real weekly volume from time that was otherwise sedentary.
  • Targets the upper back and shoulders that desk posture loads worst.
  • Requires no change of clothes.
  • The band being visible on the desk is most of what makes it stick.

Contraindications

  • Acute shoulder injury — skip dislocates and pull-aparts until cleared.
  • Uncontrolled hypertension: avoid breath-holding during any set.
  • Stop any movement that produces sharp joint pain rather than muscular effort.

Evidence level

Medium. Short, frequent resistance bouts through the day are supported as a way to accumulate real training volume in sedentary jobs, though the specific hourly-band protocol here is a behavioural implementation of that principle rather than a separately studied intervention.
