Stop chasing a weekly step average you rescue on Sunday.

Set a minimum step count you hit every day, including bad ones, rather than a weekly average you can rescue on Sunday. A floor changes the decision from "did I train today" to "have I moved yet" — and the second question is far harder to negotiate with.

Evidence: high raises non-exercise activity, the largest movable slice of daily energy expenditure a daily floor is harder to skip than a weekly total no equipment beyond the phone already in your pocket stacks with post-meal walks

The protocol

Notethis is a movement floor, not a substitute for the aerobic and strength work in AHA's weekly guidance
Step 1measure your true 7-day average before setting anything
Step 2set the floor slightly above that average, not at a round number from the internet
Step 3hold it daily for 3 weeks, then re-evaluate
Durationongoing
Rescue plandecide in advance where the 2,000 catch-up steps come from on a bad day — one walk after dinner usually covers it

Skip this if

  • acute injury or a flare of a joint condition — volume goes through a clinician
  • a step count is a proxy, not a health outcome; do not chase it at the cost of sleep
  • if a target starts driving compulsive behaviour, drop the tracking

On the days the weather wins, the rest of them come from the pad under my desk.

Stop chasing a weekly step average you rescue on Sunday. Set a daily floor instead — one you hit even on bad days. Measure your true seven-day average first, then set the floor slightly above it, not at a round number off the internet, and hold it for three weeks. Decide in advance where the catch-up steps come from on a bad day; one walk after dinner usually covers it. agegen.ai. Generate your prime age! ~~ Mr. Age
