Mr. Age is AgeGen's editorial character. Facts come from the protocol above.

The protocol

  • Baseline: log sleep duration, sleep quality (1–5), resting heart rate and morning energy for 7 days first.
  • Duration: 30 days.
  • During: the same four metrics, daily.
  • Social plan: decide the replacement drink and the one-sentence answer before the first event, not at the bar.
  • Review: compare week 4 against the baseline week — and note anything that did not change, too.
  • After: if you resume, resume deliberately — the comparison is the whole point.

What you get

  • A clean read on alcohol's effect on your own sleep and resting heart rate.
  • Removes a large source of empty calories.
  • Breaks an automatic evening habit long enough to see it.
  • No cost.

Contraindications

  • Do NOT stop abruptly if you drink heavily or daily — withdrawal can be medically dangerous and requires clinical supervision.
  • If stopping feels impossible, that is itself a reason to speak to a clinician rather than to try harder alone.
  • This is a self-experiment, not a treatment for alcohol use disorder.

Evidence level

Medium. Thirty days is long enough for a personal before-and-after on four metrics you can measure yourself, and holding the log across a baseline week is what turns it from a resolution into a readable experiment. Medium reflects the design, not a promised outcome — the honest result includes the metrics that stay flat. The first contraindication is the one that outranks everything else here: abrupt cessation in heavy or daily drinking is a medical situation, not a challenge.
